OBJECTIVE
Eliminate slip, trip and same-level fall hazards from access routes and working areas.
WHY IT MATTERS
Slips and trips may appear minor but are common causes of sprains, fractures and lost workdays.
Cables, hoses, packaging and spills in access routes become especially hazardous in busy work areas.
Housekeeping must be continuous throughout the shift rather than treated only as an end-of-shift activity.
REALISTIC SITE SCENARIO
A worker walked through an access route and did not see a thin layer of oil on the floor.
A hose was also routed across the same walkway and the worker lost balance and fell.
Immediate spill cleanup, correct hose routing and temporary warning controls would have prevented the event.
REMEMBER
Do not simply step over a trip hazard; remove it or make the area safe.
