OBJECTIVE
Prevent unauthorised scaffold modifications, removal of guardrails or braces and use of scaffolds after their inspection status has changed.
WHY IT MATTERS
Scaffold components form part of a designed system and must not be removed casually.
Removing a guardrail, brace or platform component can create structural and fall hazards.
Modified scaffolds must be reinspected before use.
REALISTIC SITE SCENARIO
A worker removed a scaffold guardrail to pass pipework through.
The guardrail was not reinstated and the scaffold tag remained unchanged.
Using authorised scaffold personnel and reinspection would have prevented the exposure.
REMEMBER
Only authorised scaffold personnel may modify a scaffold.
